Aug 4, 2016 - Dear All,I don't know what's the hell with this hp printer ( hp laserjet. I have connected this printer on network and configured to this user to close the case. Problem: Fatal error 1601 during the installation of USB connected.
I just purchased a new HP printer, a LaserJet Pro 200 MFP M276nw. I tried to install it via the onboard software, enclosed CD and a newer HP driver.
In all cases, the setup runs, but then to hangs at 99%. After several minutes, an error pops up stating 'Install operation took too long to execute. This is a fatal error.' There was no error number. I searched the event log which listed a 'kernel-event tracing' error.
I was able to follow this error its description which stated that the Microsoft Security Client OOBE stopped due to error 0xC000000D. I do not know where to go from here to install the printer. Interestingly, before I closed the printer installer which automatically cancelled the installation, the correct printer icon showed up under Printer and Devices, and the scanner worked which demonstrated to me that at least there is a connection from the computer to the printer.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7, and the first OS on this computer was Vista. I was successfully using another HP printer on this computer running Windows 8 before I purchased the new printer. The software should be Windows 8 compliant. The new software for my HP 8500 works on Windows 8. Go to Programs and Features and see if there is HP software for your printer installed. If so remove it. If you are comfortable in doing so, remove any other HP printers as well for the time being.
Go to Printer Server Properties (normally available in the Devices and Printers window) and then to the Drivers tab. Remove the the 200 MFP driver. Now restart the computer and try again. Make sure first that you have downloaded the newest driver softare from the HP website. If this all fails, contaact HP Support because it is a new printer.
After following Thinkpads_user's advise and it still fails you may need to go one step further and delete some registry keys, if you feel comfortable doing that. The biggest thing though you will need to find a windows 8 compatible driver for this printer. Before you remove the registry keys you will need to stop the print spooler.
At the run command type services.msc then scroll down to print spooler and right click on it and select stop. The remove the registry keys you will run the regedit command.
Not sure how to do that in windows 8. Then remove the following entries: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM ControlSet 001 Contro l Print En vironments Windows x64 Drivers Version-3. You will delete any hp enteries here. You can check for version2 but it is usually located under version 3.
Once the registry keys are deleted restart the computer, the print spooler should automatically restart after the reboot. Now you have a clean slate to install the printer drivers.
